## Exploring The Terminal Nature of Atheistic Religions

Today on Based Camp, we examine the long, uneven history of secular and atheistic “religions”—from revolutionary France’s Cult of Reason and Saint-Simonism to Auguste Comte’s elaborate Religion of Humanity, Ethical Culture, the Monist League, and Sunday Assembly. We explore why these movements so often struggled to survive beyond their founders, why positivism gained unusual influence in Brazil, and whether rituals, institutions, wonder, family life, and intergenerational transmission determine whether a belief system can endure. Along the way, we contrast these experiments with our own vision of techno-puritanism, questioning whether a deliberately constructed secular faith can ever substitute for conviction, community, and lived religious practice.
